Getting started
Mitosis is free to play! Get it on Steam for Windows and Mac, on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, or on Google Play for Android.
No: your account lives on our servers, not on your device. Sign in with your username and password on the new install, and everything is back where you left it.
Playing without a username? Sign up in the game first: an account without a username cannot be signed in to anywhere else.
Parental control hides the chat, and it is saved on the device, not on your account.
On a phone or tablet, reinstall the game.
On a Windows computer, delete the folder C:/Users/[Username]/AppData/Roaming/com.freakinware.mitosis.
On a Mac, delete the folder /Users/[Username]/Library/Application Support/com.freakinware.mitosis.
Then sign in again with your username and password.
Restart the game, and try another connection (switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data).
On a computer, update the drivers of your graphics card.
Still stuck? Report a bug: tell us your device and what you see, and add a screenshot.
Playing
Move the mouse to steer your cell.
Space bar or double click: split.
W, or hold the left mouse button: eject mass.
F: use a potion. T: chat. Esc: menu. S: switch between “Score” and “Mass”.
Hold Shift to slow down, or press Ctrl to stop.
The game settings, under Controls, have more options.
Pick your control type in the game settings:
Joystick: the joystick moves your cell, and the action buttons split or eject mass.
Double Joystick: the red joystick moves your cell. While moving, double tap with your other finger to split, or tap and hold to eject mass.
Tap to move: tap to choose the direction, double tap to split, tap and hold to eject mass.
Accelerometer: tilt your device to move, double tap to split, tap and hold to eject mass.
Splitting cuts your cells in two and shoots the new halves forward, where you are steering. Use it to catch smaller cells, but watch out: small pieces are easy prey. You can have up to 32 cells at once (just one in Soccer Mode).
Ejecting shoots a small blob of mass out of your biggest cell. Feed a teammate, push the ball in Soccer Mode, or get lighter: the less mass you have, the faster you move. Hold the button down to keep ejecting.
Yes, once your cell is more than one and a half times the size of the virus and covers it. You get the virus’s mass, but your cell bursts into lots of small pieces.
The pieces need free cell slots, so a player who is already split into many cells bursts into fewer of them.
“Mass” is how much mass all your cells have right now. “Score” is the most mass you reached since you last spawned.
Click or tap the label at the top left of the screen to switch between them.
My Mitosis and your account
My Mitosis is your Mitosis account on this website: stats, ranks, rewards, the Battle Pass, evolutions, equipment, gems, chests, potions, the Laboratory, skins, your guild, the Shop and Support, in any browser.
Sign in on the login page with the username (or email) and password you use in the game. Or open it from the game: tap the settings button at the bottom right of the home screen, then “Contact the developer”.
Accounts without a username only get Support: sign up in the game to unlock the rest.
Some actions need proof that the account is really yours: claiming rewards, opening chests, changing the Auto Lab, guild moves and the account tools of Support. Your game device is that proof.
Open Mitosis on your main device (not a guest device), tap the settings button at the bottom right of the home screen, then “Contact the developer”. My Mitosis opens synced with that device, and those actions unlock.
Signing in with your password is fine for everything else, buying included.
Open the game, tap the settings button at the bottom right of the home screen and choose “Contact the developer”, then “I forgot my password”.
If the game on that device is still signed in to the account, you can set a new password straight away.
For another account, enter its username and your email, then answer a few questions that show it is yours. The team checks your answers and emails you a link to choose a new password. The link works once, within 24 hours.
If you can still get in: set a new password, kick the devices you do not know in Guest devices, and sign out other browsers in Security.
Locked out? Open Support from the game on your device and choose “My account was stolen”. Enter the account’s username and add receipts of anything you bought on it: they are the best proof that it is yours. The team checks and answers by email.
When you sign in to your account on a new device while your usual one is still in use, the new device joins as a guest. Guests can play, but some things are kept for the account’s admin devices, like changing the password or selling items.
On your main device, open Guest devices to promote a device you trust or kick one you do not know.
On the guest device, open Support and choose “Request admin powers”. The team checks that the account is yours; payment receipts help.
In Support, choose “Change my username” (it needs your game device). Usernames have 4 to 31 letters and numbers, and cannot be a name another player uses or has used. You can change yours once every 30 days, or skip the wait for 2,000 coins. Restart the game to see the new name.
Miss your old name? “Restore a previous username” brings one of your previous usernames back (it counts as your change for the month).
With Premium you can also pick one 3-letter username. It goes back to the other players 30 days after Premium ends, unless you reached tier 5: then it is yours for good. To get rid of it, send your Battle Pass receipt with “Remove my 3-letter username”.
A title is the coloured label next to your name. Evolutions, events and tournaments give titles, and you can design your own: “Buy a custom title” lets you pick a title, paint it in your colours and pay with Title Tokens.
Title Tokens come with the bigger coin packs (from 5,000 coins), the Starter Pack and Premium (10 every month).
Switch between your titles, or hide yours, for free in “My custom title”.
Evolution and equips
Your cell grows stage by stage as you earn XP in matches. Everyone starts as a base cell, and each evolution lets it grow one stage further: Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Epic, Mythic, Legendary and Ultra.
Each evolution adds points to all your stats and opens stronger equipment in the store. It also brings a title, an icon next to your name in matches and, for most of them, a set of equipment.
Evolutions cost coins and are yours forever. Each one needs the one before it, so you cannot skip any. Evolve in the game or on the Evolution page.
Each evolution lets your cell grow only up to a certain stage. When it gets there, the XP bar stops and the game tells you which evolution you need next.
XP earned while the bar is stopped is not kept, so evolve before you play.
While you are away from the game, you also build up “XP x2”: each full hour away adds 1% of the XP your current stage needs, for up to 100 hours. Until that amount is used up, the XP you earn counts double.
Helmets, armor, weapons, shields, boots and jewelry add to your stats in every match. You wear up to three pieces, each of a different kind, and only one COLLECTOR item at a time.
Stronger equipment needs a higher evolution. Buy it, wear it and repair it in the game or on the Equipment page. Selling is done in the game.
Each time you lose your last cell, every piece of equipment you wear loses 1 point of durability. At 0 it breaks, and adds nothing until you repair it with coins. Stronger and more worn items cost more to repair.
Repair in the game, or repair broken items one by one or all at once on the Equipment page.
Tip: turn on “Auto repair” in the game settings, and broken items you wear are repaired when you start a match. Gems never wear out.
A gem in your gem slot adds its stats to every match. You can own one gem of each colour at a time, and the gem shop has new gems every day at midnight UTC.
Gems have levels from 1 to 25 and grow with Gem XP. When a gem completes its level it is used up, and its colour can turn up in the shop again.
Buy and wear gems in the game or on the Gems page.
Gem Training gives your gems Gem XP every full hour, even while you are offline: 100 XP an hour for each gem in training.
Slot 1 is free and trains the gem you wear. Slot 2 is open while your Battle Pass is Premium, and slot 3 for the month in which you buy a coin pack of 30,000 coins or more. Fill slots 2 and 3 in the game’s Gem Training screen.
Your gems also raise the Gem XP you get from quests.
Potions, chests and the Laboratory
Potions are powers for your matches. Active powers work when you press the power button, one charge per use. Passive powers sit in the second power slot and burn one charge each time your cell spawns. Equip them in the game’s inventory.
Timed boosts, like double XP, start the moment you get them and keep running even while you are offline.
Get potions from chests, the Laboratory and the potion shop, in the game or on the Potions page.
Every match mode can drop one chest a day. Chests also come from quests, achievements, events and the bigger coin packs. There are four kinds: Wooden, Ruby, Sapphire and Legendary.
A chest holds coins and usually an item; when there is no item for you, the coins are doubled.
The game shows waiting chests one at a time. On the Chests page you can open them all, one after the other (it needs your game device).
The Laboratory brews potions over time. Pick a recipe for a free slot, wait, then collect what it made. Recipes use ingredients from your inventory, and some unlock with achievements.
More slots brew more at once: unlock them with coins, and the Battle Pass adds more. Premium also doubles what your crafts make.
Craft and collect in the game or on the Laboratory page. On the website, starting a craft first asks for a quick human check: a short game where you eat a few cells and dodge the viruses, to confirm that a person is there.
The Auto Lab crafts for you, even while you are away. Add recipes to its queue and choose for each one:
Repeat automatically: keep crafting it whenever a slot is free.
Auto-collect when ready: pick up what it made for you.
Auto-buy missing ingredients: buy what is missing with your coins.
The lab tries #1 in the queue first. Free players can keep 3 recipes active per preset; with Premium there is no limit.
Open it with the Auto Lab button of the Laboratory in the game, or in the Auto Lab tab of the Laboratory page. Changing it on the website needs your game device and the quick human check.
Skins
Wear any skin you own, buy store skins with coins and mark favourites, in the game or on the Skins page. Favourites show up first in the game too, and with Premium every skin is free to use.
To make a custom skin, press “Create” in the game’s skin store, then draw one or load a picture from your device. It costs coins, and the team reviews it before you can wear it.
The team reviews every new custom skin, and you get a message when it is done.
Approved: you can wear it.
Rejected: it is removed and you get your coins back.
Rejected as inappropriate (explicit pictures, for example): it is removed and the coins are lost. Several inappropriate skins in one day block skin uploads for 3 days.
Skins are rejected for things like pictures of the game itself, screenshots, parts of other games or apps, symbols banned in some countries, mocking minorities, rude gestures, bad language or double meanings, or pictures that are almost all one colour. A skin of one solid colour cannot be uploaded at all.
Deleting one of your own custom skins does not give the coins back.
Rewards and the Battle Pass
Each season lasts a calendar month and has its own Battle Pass. Every match and daily quest gives Battle Pass XP, and every 5 levels the free track has a reward for everyone. Level 100 also opens an extra Laboratory slot for the rest of the season.
Claim your rewards in the game or on the Battle Pass page (it needs your game device). Claim them before the season ends: a new season starts the track again from level 0.
Premium lasts 30 days. It pays every free-track reward twice (Double Loot), gives more Battle Pass XP and adds perks: a Legendary chest every day, every skin free to use, double Laboratory crafts, 10 Title Tokens every month, a 3-letter username and more. Some perks need a higher tier.
Buy it in the game, or in the Shop of My Mitosis with PayPal. Renew it before it ends to climb a tier: the days add up and each renewal costs less, up to tier 5. If Premium runs out, the next one starts again at tier 1.
New players can also get the Starter Pack once: evolutions, coins, potions and some days of Premium.
You have up to 3 daily quests at a time. Finish one in a match and its coins or chest arrive straight away: no claiming needed. Do not like a quest? Swap it for free once a day, in the game or on the Rewards page. Open “Daily Quests” in the game to get new ones.
Achievements are bigger goals, and most of them give a reward: coins, chests, potions or Title Tokens. Claim it in the game with “Get reward”, or on the Rewards page. Titles and equipment from achievements are claimed in the game.
Ranks, tournaments and guilds
A season is a calendar month: the season leaderboards start again on the 1st. The “Current day” board shows yesterday’s results in your zone’s time, and the “Current week” board starts again every Monday.
When the season ends, the best players of the season boards win coins (only your single best prize counts), and first place on a Global board also earns a title.
Ranked matches open with the Mythic Evolution. Your rank, from 1 to 46 with its own badge, follows your rating, which grows in Guild Wars tournaments. See every board, the prizes and your rank on the Ranks page.
Tournaments run several times a day, in the afternoon and evening of each region. Enter with a Tournament Ticket from the item store: the top 3 win coins, and places 4 to 10 get their ticket back.
On Saturday evening, the Grand Tournament is open to Premium Battle Pass players, with bigger prizes. Guilds have their own Guild Wars tournaments.
The Tournaments tab of Ranks shows the next ones in your time zone.
Only the first devices you sign in with each month can play tournaments. Playing from a new one? Clear the lock in Tournament device lock, once every 30 days.
In the game’s guild menu, “Find a guild” lists guilds you can join, and “Create a new guild” starts your own. Creating one costs coins, plus the price of the skin you pick as its logo. A guild has up to 30 players.
Guild invites show up in the game and on the Guild page, where you can decline them, or accept them with your game device.
The owner of a guild with other players must make one of them owner before leaving.
The bank collects 10% of the coins the guild’s players win in guild matches, plus prizes from Guild Wars tournaments and seasons.
Once a week, on Wednesday, the game shares out up to 80% of the bank among the players who played guild matches in the last 7 days: each win counts 2 and each loss 1, and nobody gets more than 2,500 coins. Banks under 2,000 coins are not shared out.
The owner and the officers with bank access can also send coins from the bank by hand, up to 1,000 coins a day to each player.
Only the owner and the officers can invite. If your friend is already in a guild, they have to leave it first, and if they received coins from their guild today, the game may not let them leave until tomorrow.
A full guild (30 players) cannot take anyone else, and after an invite you may have to wait a few minutes before inviting the same player again.
Shop and payments
Win coins in matches, and get more from daily quests, achievements, chests and the Battle Pass. Or buy a coin pack, in the game or in the Shop of My Mitosis.
The Shop sells coin packs, Premium and the Starter Pack at the game’s PC prices in US dollars, paid with PayPal. You pay on PayPal’s own site, so this website never sees your card or your PayPal password, and what you buy is added as soon as PayPal confirms the payment. The Shop also shows the bonuses you get on coin packs.
Buying needs your main device or a password sign-in, not a guest device.
Open the Shop: your purchases are listed there with their status, from the website and from the game. A payment that went through but was not added yet can be finished there, and some PayPal payments take a while to clear.
Still missing? In Support, choose “I paid but got no coins”, pick where you bought and add the receipt you got by email. The team checks it for you.
In the game’s store, press “Use coupon” and type the code. Each code works once per account, and codes can expire or run out. Some event codes need the Epic Evolution.
Help and safety
In the game, choose “Report Abuse” and enter the player’s username. “Ignore player” hides their chat messages; you can undo it in Ignored players.
Teaming in Solo mode is against the rules. Report it with “Report teamers in Solo mode” and a video of the match: write !record in the chat while you record, so the team can find it.
Open Support in My Mitosis to report a bug, ask about a payment, recover an account or send an idea, and follow the team’s replies there and by email. The team handles requests within 24 hours; please write in English.
Or ask the community on our Discord: someone has probably met your problem before.
